Pendo Acquires Receptive Software Limited To Build Unified Product Data Platform

Published: May 8, 2019

Pendo, a product cloud company, has acquired Receptive Software Limited, a company specializing in product feedback and feature request management for SaaS. With this acquisition, Pendo aims to provide product teams with a comprehensive platform to help marketers better understand user behavior and make smarter product decisions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to Pendo CMO Jake Sorofman, Receptive is positioned to complement Pendo’s quantitative and behavioral analytics around the product experience with qualitative information directly from customers. Together, the companies hope to create a unified platform that can help product teams drive revenue.

“The way that product teams make better decisions is through a combination of quantitative and qualitative insights,” said Sorofman in an interview with Demand Gen Report. “It’s this necessary combination of deeply understanding what users do, what they say and also what they want. Receptive is solving for that last point and helping to understand what users are asking for by capturing, aggregating and allowing you to analyze and prioritize customer feedback and feature requests.”

The company said Receptive will initially operate as a separate business and will be available as both a standalone product and as an integrated part of Pendo. Down the line, Pendo plans to integrate both brands and product offerings under one roof.

This marks Pendo’s second acquisition in two years. In 2017, it acquired Insert.io, a mobile analytics company.

The news also closely follows Pendo’s opening of a London office in March 2019. According to Sorofman, the company plans to use Receptive’s headquarters in Sheffield, U.K. to build on this momentum. The Sheffield headquarters will serve as a home base for the Receptive product line, as well as a European development center for growing the company’s technical talent.

The company plans to continue expanding its presence in the U.K. and Western Europe in 2019. Sorofman said Pendo is also looking to expand its offering for customer success, UX, marketing and growth teams.

“Building better software is the goal and mission of Pendo, and that’s the goal and mission of Receptive,” said Sorofman. “We will continue to expand into our core markets, move into new markets geographically and expand the roles that we are serving.”
