Twilio To Acquire SendGrid For $2B

Published: October 17, 2018

Twilio, a cloud communications platform, announced plans to acquire SendGrid, an email marketing platform, in an all-stock transaction valued at about $2 billion.

The acquisition, which is expected to close in the first half of 2019, positions Twilio to create a comprehensive, cloud platform that enables marketers to communicate with their customers across all channels, including voice, messaging, video and email. The combined companies will serve more than 100,000 customers.

“Increasingly, our customers are asking us to solve all of their strategic communications challenges — regardless of channel,” said Jeff Lawson, Co-Founder and CEO of Twilio, in a statement. “Email is a vital communications channel for companies around the world, and so it was important to us to include this capability in our platform.”

“We are soon to be a part of the Twilio family and once the merger is completed, will join a proven, successful and rapidly growing cloud communications platform that is aligned with our developer-centric roots, as well as our mission and values,” said Sameer Dholakia, CEO of SendGrid, in a statement to Demand Gen Report. “Joining Twilio will allow us to accelerate our journey towards a shared vision of offering one trusted platform to fuel the future of customer communications.”
